Soft and chewy, these homemade brown butter oatmeal cookies are swirled with sweet peach jam and fresh peaches for the ultimate late-summer treat. They’re delicious on their own, but the real magic is the brown butter vanilla icing with just a hint of cinnamon. Thick, creamy, and rich, it melts into every warm, gooey bite, making these cookies completely irresistible.

I knew my August recipe lineup had to include summer peaches. Every year, I wait as patiently as I can for those beautiful August peaches. It’s never easy. I always want to start baking with peaches the second they appear at the farmers market, but I’ve learned it’s worth waiting until they’re perfectly ripe, juicy, and at their sweetest.

I’ve wanted to share these cookies for a long time. Last fall, I made one of my favorites, my Iced Apple Cider Oatmeal Cookies. The minute I pulled them from the oven, I started thinking about how delicious they would be with fresh peaches instead. But it was apple season, so I tucked the idea away and waited until summer to start testing.

These cookies took a little work. Fresh fruit can be tricky to bake with, especially in cookies, but after plenty of testing, we finally landed on what I think is the perfect recipe.

Everyone on our team has been baking these all week, and we are completely obsessed. The sweet peaches paired with the rich, caramel-like flavor of browned butter are such a delicious combination, and the icing truly takes them over the top. It melts into every cookie and complements the peaches perfectly. I can’t wait for you to bake these before peach season comes to an end!

The Steps

Step 1: Mix the Peaches

Stir together the peach jam and fresh peaches. Let the mixture sit while you brown the butter. This gives the peaches time to release some of their juices and creates even more flavor.

My Tip: Use ripe peaches that are still slightly firm so they hold their shape in the cookies. And don’t worry if the jam isn’t perfectly mixed in. Those little pockets and swirls of jam are exactly what you want.

Step 2: Brown the Butter

Cook the butter over medium heat until it’s golden and smells rich and nutty, about 3 to 4 minutes. Transfer it to a heatproof bowl and let it cool slightly before making the dough.

Brown Butter Advice: Keep a close eye on the butter during the last minute. It can go from perfectly browned to burnt very quickly. As soon as it smells toasted and you see golden brown bits on the bottom of the pan, it’s ready.

Step 3: Make the Dough

Whisk the brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla into the browned butter until smooth. Stir in the flour, oats, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt until just combined. Gently fold in the peach mixture, leaving ribbons of jam swirled throughout the dough.

Keep This in Mind: Less mixing is always better. Fold in the peaches with just a few gentle turns so you keep those beautiful swirls of peach jam throughout the cookies.

Step 4: Bake

Roll the dough into balls and bake until the edges are just set and the centers still look slightly soft.

My Tip: The cookies will look a little underdone when you pull them from the oven, and that’s exactly what you want. They’ll continue to set as they cool, staying perfectly soft and chewy. And don’t worry if every cookie looks a little different. Those swirls of peach jam make each one perfectly imperfect. I love that no two cookies are exactly alike.

Step 5: Ice the Cookies

Brown the butter, then whisk in the powdered sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and enough milk to create a thick, smooth icing. Spread it over the cooled cookies while the icing is still warm.

My Tip: The icing sets quickly, so frost the cookies as soon as it’s mixed. If it starts to thicken, simply whisk in another splash of milk until it’s smooth and spreadable again.

Gifting Idea: These are such a fun cookie to package up and share. Stack a few in a bakery box or cellophane bag tied with ribbon, then tuck in a little jar of homemade peach jam or a few beautiful peaches from your favorite farm stand. Add a handwritten recipe card, and you’ve got the sweetest little late-summer gift.

The consistency of these was off for me. My batter was super thin, and the cookies themselves had a muffin-like texture. The taste was good, but not overly peachy.

Made these, everyone LOVED them (family and coworkers)! I think I made mine rolls a little too small but they still came out great. Will absolutely make again – I might try the chopped peach option or even a different fruit for fun!

I had a blueberry jam that I made last summer that is a bit savory that I used along with fresh blueberries. These were a HUGE hit!!

I really wished these would have worked better. My kids did not like them. I felt these were too underbaked and wet, they could have used an extra few minutes. I also would chop the peaches up into small pieces instead of slice next time so you get a little bit in each bit. The texture of the sliced peach was a little slimy and when you bit into the cookie the whole slice falls out. The icing was good. I think this recipe just needs some tweaking to make it better.

    1. Hi Molly,

The cookies were soft and moist. I wish they had had more of a peach taste. They were good but tasted more like an oatmeal cookie. I almost feel like it would make a good cake recipe. The icing instructions called for sea salt, but the ingredients did not include sea salt.

    1. Hi Janin,
Thanks so much for making these cookies and sharing your feedback! You can use a pinch of seas salt for the icing. Let me know if you make them again!

Made these tonight with a special peach and peach jam. Please confirm I used the correct measurement: 1/3 cup peaches and 2/3 cup of jam. The cookies were delicious (not as sweet as I expected) but my husband just said he would have liked more peaches (and I agree). Thanks!

    1. Hey Judy,
Happy Sunday! I’m thrilled to hear this recipe was a hit, thanks a lot for making it!

Yes, those are the correct measurements:)
